(Sorry this is a wee bit long, don't worry about reading it. I promise, I won't be offended.)
Not like you care, but here's a little background to my jogging history and to last Saturday's 5k adventure in Heber.
I used to run, make that jog. Like, quite a lot. When I lived in Manti, my cute friend Staci got me into jogging--heaven knows I needed the exercise--still do actually! When I moved to Springville to become a teacher I kept up my jogging habit. I would get up every morning at 5:30 and go for a 3 mile run before I went to work. Fast Forward a couple of years into teaching, Staci talked me into running the Hobble Creek Half Marathon with her. 13.1 miles? Are you KIDDING me? Nope! She wasn't kidding. So I hemmed and hawed about it for a while and before I knew it I was driving to Manti every Friday night for our Saturday morning to Manti for our "long run". I survived the Half but was SUPER burned out on jogging and decided to take a week off. That week turned into months, turned into years, turned into the big, chubby, slothful Kim we all know and love today. :)
About 3 weeks ago I decided it was time. Time for what? Time to get this lazy, chubby body a bit more active. So, I started setting my alarm for 4:50 a.m. (Yep! Bright and EARLY!) and began hitting the treadmill at the gym. I figure going from 0 running to 3.1 miles in 3 weeks is A-OK! Somewhere in that time Min asked if Matt and I would want to run a 5k in Heber for a wrestler who was paralyzed during a wrestling meet. I thought I could probably handle it. Matt hasn't been jogging faithfully in a long time, but he said he'd like to do it too.
Fast Forward again to Saturday morning, we got up at 7 and headed to Heber to run the COLDEST, WINDIEST, 5k in history (at least in my history) that actually turned out to be closer to 3.5 miles than 3.1 (Thanks to Kara's handy tracker.) I was butt-hurt that Matt hasn't been running in ages and still beat me by 5 minutes or so. Michael kicked some serious boot-ay and came in 4th overall! Jenna saved the day by tending Daner and Bosty in the back of the car and my mom had Brynlie at Can's so that worked out well! Even though the temperature was freezing and the wind was brutal, we had a good time. I got to run some of the race with a couple from Manti that I used to babysit for, so that was fun too.
After the race we headed to Kara's house for some seriously delicious lunch! Then we were off to Magna to pick up Boo Magoo and head home. It was a pretty fun day! Next 5k? Possibly April 16th in honor of Dan Adams. We'll see how long my dedication lasts. :)

I was so proud of her! She hadn't run that far for a couple of years but she jogged the whole thing! Woot! Woot!
